So I was doing my usual gym routine on a Monday morning. Everyone in a motivated mood to smash the forthcoming week ahead. I was having a conversation with one particular motivated person about their goals. The aim was to do lots & lots of Cardio to lose weight. Drop the numbers on the scale. I responded, “If you had the dream body you’ve always wanted, would the number on the scale really matter”?
One of the first things to understand about dieting & weight loss is this: On average, your body burns a certain number of calories each day. When you eat fewer calories than you burn, you will lose weight.
Weight loss is pretty simple really and in practice, sounds good. However, the truth is, you won’t be able to lose weight every single week. Your body is smart and adapts to the changes being made.
You need to ask yourself this question
Will you be satisfied with your appearance when you lose the weight?
From my experience working with others, I can say the answer is no. As humans, we always want more. More lean muscle, a better waist ratio, more shape to the thighs. Now here is why just losing weight alone won’t get you any of this…
You haven’t been able to hold onto muscle tissue during the weight loss meaning when you look in the mirror, you’ll be a smaller version of yourself, but the definition and overall shape will be lacking. The more muscle you burn during weight loss, the slower your metabolism will become.
The aim is to keep on to your muscle as much as possible while losing weight so that when you get there, it will make a huge difference to how you look.
Remember, nothing beats a fit, strong body with a kick ass metabolism!
